Kailey Richner (she/her/hers)

Kailey joined the UNL Clinical Psychology Training Program in the fall of 2018. She graduated from
Arizona State University in December of 2016 with a B.S. in psychology and minor in justice studies. Throughout her undergraduate career, she participated in a variety of research experiences with a particular interest in alcohol and trauma. Under Dr. William Corbin's supervison she examined variability in subjective response to alcohol, assisted in data collection for a study examining drinking context, and helped develop  a study examining norms associated with sexual aggression.

At UNL, Kailey continues to work on a number of projects related to substance use and sexual violence. Specifically, her master's thesis sought to better understand the relationship between self-reported alcohol intoxication and sexual victimization by using additional follow up questions and scoring methods for the sexual experiences survey. Relying on an experimental paradigm, her dissertation is also examining themes related to sexual violence via the assessment of mechanisms informed by the Integrated Theory of Sexual Offending (ITSO; Ward et al., 2016). Sexual arousal, alcohol use history, and the interaction between the two serve as selected risk factors while mechanisms of interest include response inhibition, affective forecasting, and working memory/attentional control. Outside of substance use and sexual violence, Kailey also has interests related to other violent behaviors, trauma, and social media. These overarching interests led her to collaborate with Dr. Mario Scalora's lab in order to better understand cyber sexual coercion and gain valuable exposure to risk and threat assessment tenets. She will be completing her APA accredited internship at the Salt Lake City VA from July 2023 through July 2024.
