Katie Bogen, M.A.

Fourth Year Graduate Student

Email: kwbogen@gmail.com

Katie is a fourth-year graduate student in the Clinical Psychology Training Program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She is affiliated with both the Violence Intervention for Survivors of Trauma and Abuse (VISTA) Lab and the Women, Immunity, and Sexual Health (WISH) Lab. Katie works at the intersections of violence prevention and human sexuality research. She is particularly interested in the development, facilitation, and robust evaluation of intervention programs designed to assuage posttraumatic symptoms, including sexual dysfunction and sex-related substance use, among sexual trauma survivors.

Katie graduated from Clark University in 2015 with a B.A. in Political Science. Before joining the team at UNL, she spent 5 years working in pediatric violence prevention research, first at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School, then in the Rhode Island Hospital Department of Psychiatry. In these capacities, Katie ran CDC- and NIH-funded program evaluation studies examining the efficacy of social norms-based dating abuse and sexual violence prevention programs among middle and high school students. Throughout her research career, she has developed expertise in social media analysis, as well as geographic information systems (GIS) and qualitative research methods. Katie also works as a sex educator and lecturer for the South Shore Sexual Health Center in Quincy, MA, where she has taught courses on incorporating findings from contemporary sex research into provision of clinical services, supporting sexual minority clients, and differentiating between consensual sex work and sexual exploitation. She is a Rhode Island state-certified victims advocate for individuals who have experienced sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking, human trafficking, and hate crimes.
