Ashlin Ondrusek

Ashlin Ondrusek (she/her) is a first year graduate student in the Clinical program. She graduated from Sewanee: The University of the South in 2019 with a BA in Psychology and a double minor in Spanish and Dance. Throughout her undergraduate experience she served an elected officer and eventual President of the university’s largest student-led dance organization and additionally worked as a co-leader of a disordered eating intervention program for freshman women. During her junior year she studied abroad in Chile and designed and carried out an independent study learning about Intercultural Health through a specific indigenous perspective. After graduation, she took a role with her previous internship advisor as a Postgraduate Associate at the Yale Child Study Center on an R01 grant assessing the efficacy of a socio-emotional learning intervention in preschools around Connecticut. A year later she accepted an opportunity to work in Dr. Trace Kershaw’s ENRICH lab working directly with community health and substance use. In this role, as Research Assistant at the Yale School of Public Health, she worked on “Project Renew,” an NIAAA-funded R01 study exploring the ways in which social networks and geographic spaces influence individual experiences in treatment and recovery utilizing ecological momentary assessment through an app and staff-conducted clinical interviews. Working in this lab, she found her passion, working with folks with histories of substance use disorder and trauma. In the summer of 2022, she took a role as Project Coordinator for the University of Georgia site with the Project Renew study. Her research and life experience have evolved to focus on understanding the etiology of substance use disorder and novel intervention development, particularly regarding populations with histories of trauma. She’s very excited to begin working in the B-SMART lab with Dr. Dennis McChargue working with populations who use substances and exploring embodied intervention development. In her free time, she loves dancing, teaching yoga, playing animal crossing, and hiking with her fiancé Jack and her dog Maggie.
