Welcome to the B-SMART Lab at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln!

The B-Smart Lab is an inclusive group of scholars who study substance use risks and outcomes from multiple perspectives. We are committed to finding treatments and interventions that improve the lives of the individuals that we work with. Our hardworking and dedicated team includes members from various different backgrounds, areas of study, and experiences.

GRADUATE STUDENT APPLICANTS

Dr. McChargue will be recruiting for the 2023/2024 academic year. Applicants are encouraged to famililarize themselves with the online information, current projects, and academic articles, as well as the graduate Clinical Psychology Training Program at UNL. Students who apply to work with Dr. McChargue have an interest in the development of substance use behaviors and related outcomes, either beginning in childhood, or in adulthood, and incorporating an intersectional multidisciplinary perspective. For more information about the B-SMART lab, the UNL graduate program, and Dr. McChargue's work, please email dmcchargue2@unl.edu.

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT APPLICANTS

First and Second year students from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln who are interested in joining the B-SMART lab are encouraged to submit an application form or reach out to current lab members. Research assistants are a vital to maintaining our research productivity. Many have received UCARE funding for their efforts (see funding link) as well as have been co-authors on publications and poster presentations. Furthermore, a number of undergraduates have gone on to graduate level training at various institutions in psychology, counseling, and medicine. We operate on a junior colleague model where graduate students and advanced undergraduate students have the opportunity to supervise the work of other undergraduates. As undergraduate students progress within the lab, they also have the opportunity to add responsibilities, at times functionally acting as a project coordinator for one of the major studies. Project Coordinators also target UCARE funding to increase the benefits associated with the added responsibility.
