Jaimie Elowsky

Jaimie joined the Clinical Psychology Training Program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the fall of 2022. Her interests lie at the intersection of disinhibition (e.g., inhibitory control deficits, externalizing behaviors, substance use), aggression, and violence prevention. Broadly, she is interested in prevention and intervention methods for the treatment and development of addiction and chronic antisocial behavior.

Jaimie received her B.S. from Middle Tennessee State University after completing her honors thesis and working in various labs on campus that examined the role of child maltreatment in non-suicidal self-injury, and substance abuse. During her undergrad, Jaimie worked as a research assistant under the mentorship of Dr. Matthew Morris at Meharry Medical college & Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she assisted with an NIMH study that used physiological, behavioral, and self-report measures to examine risk factors for PTSD in women who had experienced interpersonal and sexual violence. Wanting to learn more about the underlying mechanisms of aggressive behavior, Jaimie sought out mentorship from Dr. Andrea Glenn at the University of Alabama, where she assisted with data collection in offending and justice invovled populations to understand empathy-related processing, psychopathic traits, and moral decision-making. Before joining the BSMART lab at UNL, she spent 4 years working with the team at the Center for Neurobehavioral Research at Boys Town National Research Hospital under the supervision of Dr. Robert James Blair and Dr. Karina Blair. She assisted with numerous NIMH projects to study MRI (functional and structural), endocrine, and behavioral testing methods to identify neurobiological system dysfunctions associated with various psychopathology, particularly conduct disorder (CD), callous-unemotional traits (CU traits), and substance use. Throughout her research involvement, Jaimie has become further invested in the factors (both psychological and systemic) that influence recidivism. In her free time, Jaimie enjoys hiking, snowboarding, reading, and hanging with her 4 animals.
