Patrick Duryea (he/him/his)

Patrick Duryea is a 2nd-year in the Clinical Psychology Training Program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He graduated from Providence College in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. As an undergraduate, he interned under Dr. Jane Metrik of Brown University investigating cannabis’s acute effects on alcohol behaviors. He went on to work on a study under Lynn E. Taylor, MD at the University of Rhode Island that used a longitudinal design to examine hepatitis C virus, mental health, substance use, opioid agonist therapy, and more.

Patrick’s main research interests include the cognitive and affective mechanisms underlying substance use disorders, as well as comorbidities between substance use and mental health issues. In the BSMART laboratory Patrick is currently exploring how a restorative justice intervention, empathy, and adverse childhood experiences interact to predict criminal recidivism. He’s also working on a systematic review that involves childhood maltreatment and alcohol use in African American adolescents. Patrick has previously pursued projects related to the impact trait mindfulness has on viewing posts about cannabis on social media, as well as rumination’s effect on substance use.
