Therese Wang

Therese Wang (she/her/hers) is a first-year graduate student in the Clinical Psychology Training Program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). She graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2019 with a BSSc in Psychology. Therese completed her undergraduate thesis, a meta-analysis on the efficacy of motivational interviewing in treating co-occurring psychosis and substance addiction, under the supervision of Dr. Suzanne So. Therese spent the next two years pursuing her MPhil’s degree in Psychology at CUHK, investigating the roles of perseverative thinking, attention, and memory processes in predicting delusion maintenance. Upon her graduation in 2021, Therese started working in Dr. Samuel Wong’s lab at the JC School of Public Health and Primary Care (JCSPHPC), where she led the data management and statistical analyses of two large-scale clinical trials testing the effects of mindfulness training for children with ADHD. She further contributed to several grant applications and publications examining the effect of mindfulness in treating various physical and mental health conditions. Alongside her full-time job, Therese volunteered weekly at a mental health support hotline. Throughout her work and life journey in Hong Kong, Therese grew a strong interest in the cognitive underpinnings of belief and behavioral change, especially in the cross-culture background. Since she joined the B-SMART lab, Therese has been working with Dr. Dennis McChargue in investigating the application of technology in emotional regulation training among individuals recovering from substance use disorders. She is also actively exploring her other research interests including the roles played by sense of agency and multicultural experiences in substance addiction and recovery. In her free time, Therese enjoys cooking, reading, traveling, playing her guitar, writing songs, and watching horror movies.
