Nancy Liu

Nancy Liu, PhD

Nancy is primarily interested in the implementation and dissemination of evidence-based mental health care to populations who need them most.  During her time at UNL, Nancy worked on a multi-site cognitive remediation trial involving attention shaping in treatment-refractory SMI and collaborated with several colleagues to better understand neurocognitive functioning in SMI. Funded by a data infrastructure grant by HHS, her dissertation examined the statewide implementation of a best practice for  SMI.  Awarded a Fulbright award to Beijing, she examined risk factors for suicide in China's rural areas and was subsequently selected as an NIH Fogarty Fellow to study health policy and women's health in Bueno Aires, Argentina.  After Will was selected for the WHO Working Group for Psychotic Disorders, Nancy spent time in Geneva, Switzerland working with the WHO on revisions for ICD-11.

Prior to UNL, Nancy graduated from Trinity University with a major in psychology and minors in philosophy, sociology, and religion. There, she focused on cognitive functioning, examining rumination biases in memory and the interpretation of neutral stimuli.

Nancy completed her internship and post-doc at the University of California, San Francisco.  Her research at UCSF focused on health technology for broad dissemination of treatment to those with limited access.  She also worked in an integrated mental health and primary care clinic for low-income pregnant women with comorbid SMI, PTSD, and depression at San Francisco General Hospital.  Nancy currently focuses on implementation science at the National Center for PTSD at the Palo Alto VA.  She is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of San Francisco and Instructor at UC Berkeley.
