Memorandum of Absence & Change of Course Format

Memoranda of Absence & Course Format Change

This form is intended only for instructor absences or changes in course format that fall outside of UNL’s official inclement weather policy.

Faculty should refer to the UNL Inclement Weather Policy for guidance on weather-related closures and instructional continuity expectations.

Syllabus Guidance

Instructors are encouraged to include a brief statement in their syllabi outlining how instruction will proceed in the event of:

  • Personal absence (e.g., illness, travel)
  • Temporary change in course format (e.g., switching to Zoom or asynchronous delivery)

This helps ensure transparency and continuity for students. For weather-related disruptions, instructors should follow university-wide procedures and do not need to submit this form.
