Name of the internship and duties related to the role

The name of the internship is the Trailblazer Child & Youth Program and it's in partnership with the United States Navy. I spent 3 months out in the east coast working 40-hour weeks in New London, Connecticut. I was working in the School Age Care program (SAC), which was ages 5-12. During the summer program I would work to help as a supporting staff member in activities like art, outside play, our technology room, performing arts activities, etc.

How have you benefitted from the internship?

The TCYP internship has really helped to widen my perspective of the world. Having the opportunity to be directly involved in military life/culture was extremely eye opening. Being able to get the hands-on experience of working with children of all types, even those with challenging behaviors, and having the opportunity to build these connections with the children as well as my coworkers was a wonderful experience.

Other comments

This internship was absolutely amazing. I got free housing, airfare, rental cars and gas reimbursement through the program. Throughout the program on the weekends, we were able to travel around the New England area to places like Vermont, New York City, Maine, Boston, Rhode Island and even Canada. I even got to take a college class alongside the internship and was able to get 3 credit hours.
