Faculty member Kathy Chiou, assistant professor of psychology, Clinical Program, recently joined the psychology department. We got in touch with Kathy to learn more about her.
Where did you complete your training?
I got my B.A. in psychology with a minor in education from the University of California-Berkeley. I then received a M.S. and Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University and completed my pre-doctoral clinical internship with an emphasis in neuropsychology at the University of Florida Health Science Center. Finally, I did a two-year post-doc fellowship at the Kessler Foundation, a non-profit organization specializing in rehabilitation research.
What are you teaching at UNL?
This semester I am teaching Behavioral Neuroscience (Psych 465/Bios 419). I will also be teaching the graduate level Assessment course in Fall 2017.
What is one interesting thing about yourself?
I love spending time out in the mountains. My favorite things to do (other than teaching, preparing manuscripts, and writing grants, of course....) are to go snowboarding in the winter and backpacking in the summer. We've had a few close calls with injuries on the slopes and some crazy encounters with wildlife, but they do make for some good stories. Lucky for me, Nebraska is still within a day's drive away from the mountains--and I'm hoping to take advantage of it sometime!
