University Professional Staff Serve the Needs of the Psychology Department

Greetings from Melody Scholl-Miller and Eyde Olson! We are professional staff from the University who provide essential services to members of the Psychology Department! We would like to introduce ourselves.

Melody Scholl-Miller

Melody Scholl-MillerMelody Scholl-Miller, Computer Specialist for the College of Arts and Science, maintains all of the technology equipment that is used by faculty, staff, and students in the Department of Psychology. She started as a computer technician in August 2012 for the College of Arts Science supporting several college units, including the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, the Center for Great Plains Studies, Women’s and Gender Studies, Judaic Studies, and Ethnic Studies. Then in December 2014 she became the Computer Specialist for Psychology. Melody is part of the College of Art Sciences technical team which serves the needs of the college.

In addition to maintaining the technical equipment, Melody provides purchase recommendations for faculty and staff regarding computers, monitors, other technical equipment, and software. She also is responsible for ordering and setup as well. Such support includes offices, laboratories, and departmental class and meeting rooms. Melody troubleshoots any issues that faculty, and or staff maybe having from software, hardware, monitors, printers, projectors, and network issues. She also helps the Psychological Consultation Center with their technical support as well.

Melody loves learning about new technology and seeing how it can be implemented to advance the mission of in the department. She also finds it interesting to learn about faculty research.

Eyde Olson

Eyde Olson

Eyde Olson is an Instructional Design Technology Specialist in the Innovative Instructional Design (IID) team at the University of Nebraska--Lincoln. The IID team has 12 instructional designers assigned to specific college departments for the purpose of enriching teaching and learning practices. Eyde provides instructional design support for various departments within the College of Arts & Sciences, such as Psychology, English, Anthropology, Biosciences, Chemistry, Communication Studies, Women & Gender Studies, and Geography, and also for the School of Criminology & Criminal Justice. A priority for Eyde is supporting faculty in the Department of Psychology.

Eyde enjoys the integration of technology and pedagogy in working with psychology faculty to help them achieve their educational goals. She advises faculty in various ways, including finding efficiencies to manage large enrollment courses and courses with multiple sections, increasing instructor presence and fostering student engagement, incorporating web enhancements and taking advantage of learning management system features, using pedagogical theories to design active learning assignments, and designing simple and logical course navigations so students can focus on learning rather than struggling to find where learning materials are located.

Eyde particularly enjoys the relationships that she builds with faculty while helping to design, develop, and maintain educationally-sound and engaging courses.
